Crystal Bay – Medal
Terrific Tom Wins Monthly Mug
Its the last Friday of the month and there is a lot going on: Thanksgiving, Loy Krathong, Fireworks, busy season, and more. However all that pales in comparison to the battle for the Tropical Golfers Monthly Mug, which all sophisticated golfers know is more prestigious than the FedEx Cup. A full crowd of 26 golfers gathered at BJ’s before heading out to Crystal Bay.
Under sunny skies and a steady breeze we were assigned the C & A courses (in that order) and despite a full course we were able to tee off almost on time. Crystal Bay remains a great value. Its a fair but not too tough layout, with enough tricky holes to keep you on guard. Despite the season the course could use a little more water, but is in overall good condition. Stroke play requires a bit more on course strategy and the results unpredictable. So who figured it out this month?
Results: When all scores were in one card stood head and putter above the rest. Tom Herrington (hcp 16) shot a numbing 81 net 65 to win the Mug. While accepting the prize Tom graciously said “What good is an empty mug? Fill it up and bring it back”. Anyway, great golf Tom! Next up was Maurice Roberts (13) with a fine net 68. Next were a couple countbacks with Jim Ferris (21) over Andre Van Dyk (14) with net 69, and John Davis over Takeshi Hakozaki (15) with net 70. Good scores all.
Near pins: Bob Watson (2), John Davis (2)
Long putt: Alan Sullivan, Paul Sharples
