Trorpical Golf 11/04
Tuesday the 11th April 2017: Silky Oaks ( Stableford) You either like it or you do not. This is the feeling of the golfers around town and as the years pass the opinion starts to slip into the like side. Originally a nine hole Course, they have continued to make it an 18 hole Course but sometime I have to admit it all tends to merge. Still they are making an attempt to make it into a quality 18 hole Course. At least that is how it feels. So as the last game before Songkran, that means most players have gone out of Town for the week, three groups went to test the Course out.
I had not played the Course for some time as we do not usually play it on a Tuesday, but, low Season on us, it was time to try other Courses on a Tuesday so off we went. You book in at the desk all the Courses here book in at, then after a change, into a cart for the drive to the Course. Quite a long drive, but it clears your mind in the breeze. You tee off over a lake of sorts, if you do not top your ball in, then up to an uphill approach to the first green.
It is a Course difficult to describe as it is hilly, has a lot of water, sometimes the way ahead is difficult to spot and you need a good Caddy who knows where you are going. Apart from that it is out in the countryside and nice and quiet. As for the ball, now you see it, now you do not!!. Some of the drives are very difficult and a lot of water it there to go over. Suffice to say it is different from any other Course here. As said, you like it or you do not.
On this day we had great weather, however it had rained of late and the ground was soft so the Course played long, and the greens on the day seemed very slow. Some had been tined and some seemed to need a bit of a trim. However with the players all in carts we zoomed around and all the players had a great day out.
With the results in we had a bite to eat and then returned to base, or as we know it, BJ’s.
We were back really early so were able to declare the results an hour earlier than we usually do. Still the results were quite good.
This was an Organisers triumph as the winner with 40 points was Derek Brook, first this year, with Dick Warberg close behind with 39 points. In third place was Landis Brooks with 37 points. As we finished so early it gave the players time to test the cold ones a time or two. T.T.F..N.
