Tropical Golfers play a tight round at Royal Lakeside
The track as always was in great condition and at 1000bht green fee is real value. The greens normally slick were a tad slower today with many 3 puts being the norm.
Scoring was very close for all of the winners at Royal Lakeside. Of the eleven golfers that were placed in the regular, 18 hole, Stableford competition, the scores ranged from 35 points to 37 points. I don’t recall seeing only a three point spread for A flight through D flight. For the best nine hole scores, the A through C flights winners all had 19 points, with the D flight, not too far behind, at 16 points.
As you might expect, with scores packed this tightly together, the organizers had their hands full, dealing with five count backs.
After consulting with Pete Marwick, KPMG and highly respected local accounting firm Kubicki and Kubicki and then audited by Buckingham &Co the organizers were able to table the following.
The top spot in A flight (0 –13) went to Bill Steinman’s 36 points from his handicap of 12. Second was Alan Sullivan (13), with 35 points, on count back, over Brian Parish (13). John Davis had the top nine hole score among non placers with 19 points.
The B flight, (14 – 20) which had fewer players, and therefore only two placings. Andre Van Dyk followed up his Friday win with another strong performance and today was first again with 37 points, Brian Gabe who rang in to cancel but was persuaded to take on the challenge secured second with 35 points. Bob Britton had the top nine hole score with 19 points.
In the C flight (21 – 23), Frank Xin (23), was first with 37 points, on count back over Walter Baechli (21). Kae Dayton (23) claimed third with 35 points. Carole Kubicki had the best nine hole score with 19 points, on count back, over Buckers.
In the D flight (24 and up), Don Carmody (27), was first with 37 points. Roy Dayton (27) was second, with 36 points, on count back, over Dave Cooper (24). Barry Elphick had the best nine hole score, with 16 points, over Karen Brown on count back.
Congratulations to all the winners.
