Mashi and Dave Win Scorefest!

Mid way into the first month of the new year and things are already getting wild for the Tropical Golfers.  It’s a high scoring Golfer of the Month Race, and the outing to Crystal Bay just added to the frenzy.  Twenty three Tropical Golfers met at BJ’s Lodge for a fill-up of whatever was wanted, and all the cars headed out.

Crystal Bay (still for sale!) was in good to very good condition.  The greens are always tough to navigate but don’t confuse that with poor condition. You just have to be good at putting and an experienced Caddie helps. This week we got the B & C courses.  We haven’t seen much of the B-course in a long while, and indeed many people who play CB regularly didn’t remember the holes.  The B-course is a bit harder than the other two, and quite scenic.  Crystal Bay usually posts high Stableford scores, but the Tropical Golfers outdid themselves this time.

A-Flight (0-18):  Mashi Kaneta (17) roared back into life with a towering 42 points!  Going 21+21 showed he was in complete control this day, and was six shots clear of his flight.  Next came two 36s with Tom Herrington (15) edging out Brian Gabe (18) on countback.

B-Flight (22+):  In this flight if you didn’t have a “4” as the first number of your score don’t even think of getting called.  Dave Cooper (24) continued is impeccable run with a numbing 42 points.  Awesome.  Next came two players with 41!  Gorden Clegg (36) won the tie-breaker over Dick Warberg (23).   What amazing scores.

Near Pins:  Paul Weatherley, Landis Brooks, Andre Van Dyk, Dick Warberg

Long putts:  Carole Kubicki (50′!), Mashi Kaneta

Best Nines (non-winner):  Torsten Bischoff (19), Mick Coghlan (18)
