Frank Xin Scores 41 Points at Bangpakong
In the USA, it was Black Friday, the Day after Thanksgiving, and the unofficial start of the Christmas shopping season. In Las Vegas, Phil Mickelson was playing Tiger Woods in their long hyped, match play event. Here in Pattaya, it was the day after Loy Krathong, and the Tropical golfers gathered at BJ’s Holiday Lodge to prepare for their trip up the 7, to the Bangpakong River. It would become a long day of golf, and our return to Pattaya was after dark.
Bangpakong is almost always in top condition, although today, it was a little wet, so riding carts were not allowed on the fairways, and lift clean and place was allowed. The course didn’t look crowded, however, there was the dreaded, slow, five ball group, that teed off prior to the Tropical golfers. We would not be rushed today. Before par threes, we had time to relax, and watch the groups in front of us play the hole. We finished with a six hour round, and the shadows were starting to get a little long when the last group wrapped up play.
We did eventually get back to BJ’s, and over a drink and a bite to eat moved on to the presentation. Today we had a total field of 13 players, with seven winners. Topping the field with an excellent 41 stableford points was Frank Xin playing from his course handicap of 27. Second went to Bob Britton (13) with 38 points. Dave Cooper (25) claimed third with 37, in a countback over Deryl Neufeld (16). Don Carmody (29) placed fifth with 35 points.
The best front nine, not placing, went to Brian Parish’s 18, while, special guest presenter, Rob Brown had the best back nine score with 19 points. Congratulations to all the winners.
