Tropical Golf 22/5

Apologies but I made a mistake on hole numbers in my Email I just sent.  Can you ignore that Email write-up and use this one.   Thanks Derek

Tuesday the 22nd May 2018: Crystal Bay ( Stroke)  The day was planned to be at Bangpakong Country Club but we found late on that they were coring the greens at this time so we changed to Crystal Bay at the last moment. Not a bad change actually as Crystal Bay is much closer and also not as costly.

With a normal ‘Low Season’ number of players we were soon on our way to  Crystal Bay after the big decision was made whether to pay the 20 Baht on the motorway or go down Sukhumwit. The paying the 20 Baht won out on the way down there and we were soon at the Course and booked in.

C & B Nines off the white tees, were the test for the day in that order. All went well till we reached C7 which is a Par3 Island Green and was 170 or so over water. Many golfers find this difficult and this being a Monthly Mug Day and a Stroke Competition, many hopes ended in the water. Certainly I was 5 off the tee here.   Also onto the B Nine the first Par 5 which is B3 was also a long drive over water and also caused problems for many golfers. See water, hit water. The greens were a bit slower than one would expect but the Course was playable. Talking of water I have to report that the water in the changing room was nice and hot and hopefully will be next time.

We were back at BJ’s nice and early after coming back along Sukhumwit before the schools were out.

The winner of The Monthly Mug, Sponsored by The BJ’s Holiday Lodge, was Mick Coghlan with a fine Net 64, well done Mick. In second was John Davis with a Net 69, ahead of Takeshi Hakozaki in third with a Net 71. In  fourth place was Mashi Kaneta with a Net 72 and then we had a countback on Net 73 that saw Dick Warberg in fifth and Brian Parish in sixth.

Nice and early we then looked forward to a sober night.  T.T.F.N.
