Happy Holidays Golfers! By the time you read this Christmas will be nearly upon you or already here. Every good golf girl or boy is hoping to find shiny new clubs, stacks of balls, or a lower handicap under the tree. Putting all shopping on hold, twenty Tropical Golfers gathered at the appropriately named BJ’s Holiday Lodge for eat and greet. Cars loaded with bags and golfers headed to Crystal Bay, singing Jingle Bells all the way. Or maybe not.
This is a great layout and we like to point out the good points however this track is really deteriorating. The areas between fairways is very ordinary with tree trimmings from months ago lying everywhere and in a lot of places unplayable. Seems if a mower can’t get there it’s just left to become an overgrown mess of long grass and tree trimmings. But for 1080 green fee and caddie what do you expect. One begins to wonder what will become of this course if in high season little to no maintenance happens. We will be monitoring it closely.
Some parts of fairways were squishy-wet while other sections brown and bare. Greens rolled true but some had areas of blight.
Crystal Bay is usually described as a “scoring course” and while today’s scores were good, they were not as elevated as usual. And the winners are…
A-Flight (0-18): Tom Herrington (c/h 18) finally reappeared at the top of the list with the best score of the day – a most excellent 42 points. Is Tom back? John Davis (12) as usual was right in the hunt with a proud 39 points. Good scores.
B-Flight (19-25): Returning Brad Robbins (21) announced his arrival in style by taking his flight with a no nonsense 40 points. Brian Gabe (19) holed a 100 yard wedge to help earn his 36 points and a place in the roll call. Great shot Brian!
C-Flight (26+): Lady Luck was no luck at all as Karen Brown (34) truly earned her flight winning 35 points, a couple ahead of Gordon Clegg (28) with 33. Congrats.
Best Nine (non-winners): The best “I almost had it” nine hole scores were Torsten Bischoff and Brian Parish, both with impressive 21 point nines.
Safe and Happy Holidays to all!
