Tropical Golf 14/9
PSC Golf from Tropical Golf Group
Friday, September 14, Emerald – St
Pierrel Prevails at “Soggy” Emerald
In early August we visited Emerald and had two rain delays in the first four holes before being able to make our way around the course under cloudy but dry conditions. Now in mid September and after a rainy night, what would this trip to Emerald bring?
Gathered at BJ’s for breakfast and coffee we checked the weather radar and called the course. Yes there was light rain and golfers were waiting in the clubhouse for a break in the drizzle before heading out and the radar showed the possibility of a drying period. Based on this info the group decided it was worth at least a drive to the course to check conditions before making the final “Go/NoGo” call. Arriving, after negotiating the 36 and the construction detours, there was still a light drizzle but players were on the 1st Tee. When all arrived and after another check of the radar it was decided to “GO”. So pay up the daily fees, 1350 “All-In” a good deal, and our three groups hit the 1st hole with vigor playing “Ball in Hand” through the green. With drizzly conditions, soggy ground under foot, some puddles in bunkers, and damp slower greens, how would the group do.
With a reasonable pace of play, mixed periods of light or no drizzle, the groups all finished in good time and were showered and headed back to Pattaya and BJ’s for the results and presentation. The winner on the day and the only player to play to his handicap with 36 points was John Pierrel (c/h 12). A great round in difficult conditions! John has been very steady of late so the group headed for a week of golf in Hua Hin better beware. Following John on the podium was Bob Britton (13), 33 pts, Dick Warberg (23), 31 pts, and Don Carmody (28), 30 pts. Congratulations to all for sticking with it and completing the round. A dedicated group these Tropical Golfers!
