Playing in the sunshine at Greenwood

It was a perfect March morning in Pattaya, and the Tropical golfers gathered at BJ’s Holiday Lodge on Beach Road, Soi 3, and wake up with coffee or breakfast. The three and four balls had been set, the transportation sorted, and the 21 hopeful players hit the road.

Most of the greens at Greenwood are elevated and, while they are all significantly larger than a postage stamp, it would be fair to say that landing on, and holding the greens here is a challenge. The course is in good condition, and we had a fine day for golf, with plenty of sun, all day. Quite a few players finished with nice scores, featuring a 40 stableford point effort from Buckers.

In Tuesday’s results, we had a total field of 23 players, with twelve winners, spread over four flights. John Davis carried the A flight (0 –13) with 36 points from his handicap of 12. Second went to Gerd Riedler (10) with 35. Rob Brown had the top nine hole score among non placers with 20 points.

In the B flight, (14 – 20)  Mick Coghlan (20) took first with 37 points. Mashi Kaneta (16) was second with 34. Andre Van Dyk had the top nine hole score with 19 points.

In the C flight (21 – 26), Graham Buckingham (24), was first with 40 points. David Bailey (24) was second with 36. Frank Xin claimed the best nine score with 20 points.

In the D flight (27 and up), Roy Dayton (27), was first with 34 points. Barry Elphick (28) was second, also with 34 points, but losing the top spot on count back. Sean Millar claimed the best nine score with 21 points.

Congratulations to all the winners.
