Mashi and JD Shine at Pattavia!

WOW! Here we are, less than three weeks from our last visit, heading back to Pattavia to once again test our skills on a great layout. With seemingly nightly rains in the area would the weather cooperate? Would the greens be their usual lightening fast speed?   With the usual questions on everyone’s mind, we loaded up and headed out to this ‘Group Favorite’ venue.

Checking in quickly paying excellent rates to either walk or ride, the first 3 ball was off and down the first fairway.  However after getting to their drives, they found soft ground and mud on the ball so quickly sent word back that “Ball in Hand, fairways and closely mown areas” would be the rule of the day. We then learned that, although carts were allowed on the fairways, the area had received a good amount of rain the evening before so it turned out to be a welcome decision.

About the only difference since our last visit was that the greens had been scarified and sanded. However the grass had been allowed to grow a little so the speed was a bit slower and putts needed to be hit with a bit of authority to hold their line. Of course that becomes tricky at Pattavia as even with the slightly longer cut, downhill putts cannot be hit with authority. So be it, at least an uphill putt was there for the next stroke. In addition and most likely due to the almost daily rains, the bunkers were very firm and held some water and silt, however still a very playable and enjoyable course. A good pace under blue skies and with a slight breeze saw the group showered and headed back to Pattaya earlier than usual to learn the results of the day.

Second place our last visit here, but playing his usual steady golf, saw Mashi Kaneta (c/h 15) atop the podium with an excellent 38 points. Following closely in 2nd place was John Davis (11) with 37 pts, John Pierrel (12), 3rd with 35 pts and visiting Eddie Kost(16) getting the final nod with 34. Honorable mentions by way of our “Best 9‘s, non-winners” award went to Don Carmody and Frank Xin. Excellent golf gentlemen on a challenging course!

The Tropical Golf Group, a PSC affiliated group, generally play every Tuesday and Friday, meeting at “The BJ Holiday Lodge” located just off Pattaya Beach Rd on Soi 3. Stop by and check our bulletin board located in the restaurant. All levels of golfing ability are welcome for our friendly competitions.
