Tropical Golf 08/08
Tuesday The 8th August 2017: Silky Oaks ( Stableford) We do not normally play this Course on a Tuesday, usually if we play it we go on a Friday or at Xmas. However with there being smaller groups playing at present, it seemed like a good idea at the time.
The Course is upgrading from what was untill recently a 9 Hole Course, and quite frankly they are doing a fine job. It used to be a bit weird playing 9 holes twice from different tees but the upgrade is good and now we can say it is well worth a visit.
There is still a nice little trip in a Golf Cart from the Clubhouse to take but once there it is nice and quiet and you are in peace and quiet. The first shot is over a Lake of sorts and once over off you go. On this day the weather was fine and the Course in good condition although the fairways were a bit soft and the greens a bit slow. However it is a really nice day out and well worth a visit. Play it as a fun Course and you can have a really good day out at a fine price. And the Caddies seem happy on this Course.
We were around fast and soon changed and in for a quick bite before coming back to BJ’s. One point to note is that the German Restaurant is now closed there and gone. It used to be one of my stopping places after a round .
Back in out home base it was soon into the results and we had the earliest for a long time. The main point is that the ‘Organisers’ carried the day and the familiar face of Dick Warberg with 40 points won with Derek Brook in second on 39 points. In third was Graham Buckingham with 37 points. The best front nine, non winner, was Brian Parish with 17 points and the back nine best was Mick Coghlan with 15 points. Then as usual we had a bit of a refresher. T.T.F.N.
