Tropical Golf 02/12
Landis and Mick On Top Of Mountain!
Wow, its December already. The nice weather and busy part of the golf season is upon us, and you can’t put off Christmas shopping any longer! For the Topical Golfers a new Golfer of the Month race is starting, and a Golfer of the Year will soon be crowned! Lots going on, and to get things started the Tropical Golfers headed to Mountain Shadow.
On a windy day we found Mountain Shadow in pretty good condition. Word is its for sale if you need to come up with a Christmas gift for the person who has everything except their own golf course. Caddies seemed well experienced and despite other groups scheduled for the same day we got off on time. MS is a bit of a tough layout. Off the blue tees its on the long side and plenty of water and jungle to swallow up errant shots. Scores were expected to be a bit lower, but still a few golfers found the magic this day.
A-Flight (0-18): Once again Landis Brooks (c/h 7) went about his business in a professional manner and posted an excellent 36 points of his small handicap. Hats off to Landis! John Davis (13) played well enough for second place with 34 points over Brian Gabe (17) on countback.
B-Flight (19+): Mick Coghlan (25) recorded the best score of the day with 37 points on a tough course. Way to go Mick! Departing Otto Schmidt (35) gave himself a nice sendoff by taking second place at 35 points. Safe journeys Otto and hurry back. Finally came uber Scrabble player Graham Buckingham (28) with 31.
Near pins: Dick Warberg, Mark Tavender, Andre Van Dyk, Graham Buckingham
Long putt: John Davis
Best front nine: Tom Herrington (19)
Best back nine: Steve Trulove (19)
