On a beautiful morning 11 players set out to a course we have not played in a while and were very pleased to be welcomed by an affordable green fee for the full package.

The course was green and in good condition with the greens a bit slow with many golfers not putting up to the hole. There were also some complaints about the dogs and their habit of making the bunkers a resting place which made for impossible shots. We also had some welcome rain while out on the course but this only delayed us by about fifteen minutes.

Scores very close Mashi Kaneta and Tony Robbins battled it out all day with Mashi finally taking the honors with 32. Les Hall crept into third place with 30pts winning on count-back from Frank Quinlan, Geoff Cox and Stuart Tinkler. Prize giving was at our new home at M Club.

Wednesday 18th May

Greenwood B & C Courses

1st Geoff Parker (15)    34pts

2nd Tony Robbins (15) 33pts count-back

Near Pin Peter Allen (29)

Heavy rain all night that continued as we left Pattaya reduced numbers and only 8 made it to Greenwood . To our surprise the rain cleared and we played a course in terrific condition in beautiful weather. Geoff Parker made a welcome return to the winners spot with 34 points there was a three way tie at 33points for second with Tony Robbins edging out Stuart Tinkler and Jimmy Carr on count-back. This course is in excellent condition and very good value with the current discount package and seems to be one of the few courses that is not suffering from the recent heatwave.

Only one near pin with Peter Allen scooping the pool yet again and only by using his driver.

Heavy overnight rain again deterred people and only 7 made the trip to Crystal Bay however  we enjoyed excellent golfing weather on a course managing the drought very well. We like this course and the staff are helpful and the renovation of the B course is applauded however we were disappointed to see the lack of attention to the Bunkers with numerous instances of weeds encroaching. Peter Allen set off like a tornado and with 21 pts on the front nine looked to finally break that magic 100 score. However golf bites back and his back nine 14 pts for a total of 35 again left him over 100 and being knocked off the podium by Neil Carter with 36 pts . It is getting near the end of the month and things are getting tight in Golfer of the month with only 4 rounds to go and only 7 shots separating 5 players with Tony Robbins heading Stuart Tinkler by 1 and Neil Carter by 3

Two Bunker Boys hosted 14 International visitors at Phoenix on Saturday. It was a very disappointing experience. They booked 5 months ahead and were quoted a slightly discounted rate but as they did not have 4 four balls 12 got the discount  and two paid the full rate. It got worse. ALL the tees, Blue and White were on the Yellow or sometimes Red for 18 holes. The Marshall said they were resting the tees!!! So we had International visitors paying close to ThB4000 to play the Ladies tees!!! And to compound the problem all the Bunkers had piles of sand in them carefully raked around but no GUR indication. This group have played Phoenix for the past 8 years and they were appalled at the the redesign of the Lakes nine. In short it is terrible, smaller greens, stupid two tiers and the great par 5 fifth a real Mickey Mouse. As I said these guys have loved Phoenix for 8 years but will never again play here. This is a good example of how to ruin a great nine. I see they have started on the Ocean nine and heaven forbid they do not repeat the Lake experience.

It was a big week for The Bunker Boys with the Ranch Bar closing and us moving to a new home.  We are now at the M Club which is located 100metres along Soi 14 off Pattaya 3rd Rd  and the new phone number is Mark on  0847589907. We still play every Monday, Wednesday and Friday and we welome new golfers who do not need to book in advance and only need to be at our departure point by 9.30am.
