PSC 155th Monthly Golf Tournament
PSC 155th MONTHLY GOLF TOURNAMENT
Wednesday 12th October at Burapha, A & B
Burapha, A & B was the choice for this, the 155th PSC Monthly and it was very well attended with 124 starters on the day with an excellent rate of 1,000 baht for Green Fee & Caddy Fee plus optional cart of 600 baht. The golf course was in excellent condition considering the recent downpours and all players enjoyed playing at this quality venue.
At 5am in the morning we had a thunderstorm and torrential rain in Pattaya and the Tournament was looking doubtful but by 6.30am the storm had passed and I manouvered my motor bike down flooded streets but with sunshine overhead so I was confident that all would be well and indeed it was,
Golf Chairman Ron Gale together with Peter Blackburn, Gerd Riedler, Mark West and Marcus Earp (Dick Warberg came later) arrived at the course early to prepare for the players arrival although due to the flooded roads in the area most of us arrived about 30 minutes later than what we would have liked but still had plenty of time to get everything ready for Registration. On this occasion A, B & C Flights played off the white tees with the A Flight (0 to 12) playing Medal, B Flight (13 to 22) playing Stableford, C Flight (23 and over) playing Stableford and Ladies/Seniors playing Stableford off the Red & Silver Tees.
The Low Gross winner on the day was Paul Smith (2) who carded a 76 gross.
‘A’ Flight, playing medal was won by Thomas Marshall (10) with a net 70 (net 32 on the back nine & net 22 on the last 6 holes) in a four way count back from Vinai Jumparnit (7) also net 70 (net 32 on the back nine & net 24 on the last 6 holes) finishing second. Charly Frost (12) with net 70 (net 34 on the back nine) finished third and just missing out was Landis Brooks (8) with net 70 and net 35 on the back nine.
‘B’ Flight was won by Ted Morris (19) who had 40 points (20 points on the back nine) on count back from Joachim Oestreicher (20) also with 40 points and 18 points on the back nine.
‘C’ Flight winner was Raymond Chivers (33) after scoring 43 points.
In the Ladies/Seniors Flight it was Peter Henshaw (23) who was declared the winner after scoring a fine 41 points.
For the very first time we had a pitching competition which consisted of a 100 yard pitch from a mat on the practice putting green next to the clubhouse, over the lake and on to the putting green near the A first tee where a hole and pin had been set up. Everyone had the opportunity to have one shot after they finished their round and alas a few found the water but the winner was Jim Little whose excellent pitch finished just 5cm from the hole.
The presentation and prize giving was in a very pleasant outdoor setting at Burapha shortly after the last scorecard had been submitted and the prizewinners had been ascertained and many of the players on the day stayed back for this which was very much appreciated.
Time for the Presentation and Peter Blackburn welcomed all and introduced Golf Chairman Ron Gale who expressed his appreciation to today’s players and those who assisted him at the course and to the PSC office staff for the pre-tournament work..
Peter then announced the winners and Ron & Dick presented the prizes followed by the Lucky Draw for which the prizes were PSC umbrellas.
