Upon arrival at the course we knew for sure it was a public holiday as the car park was simply overflowing with vehicles. This could be a slow day!

The course was so busy that, at check-in, we were told there was no lockers left and all carts were out. This, of course, left some unused to walking with a dilemma.

However, with the help of the Marshal, we were able to get everyone who wanted into a cart as the carts returned from the early rounds.

The golf course was in it’s usual wonderful condition with nicely mown fairways, bunkers maintained and raked and a rough that does not unduly penalize.

The famous, or infamous, greens were quick enough on the front nine and quicker on the back nine. A couple of our number, who had not played here before, were given the usual warnings “ keep it under the hole”.

A nice breeze for most of the day gave players a pleasant day out, albeit a very slow one. Part of that problem was the 5 groups of six balls ahead of them. Well over five hours for most.  Oh well, it is a public holiday and start of high season.

There was some excellent scoring today as many were able handle the tricky greens.

Top score of the day came from Mike Tottenham, clearing away to take out “B” flight (18+) and the Green Jacket.

Then came a three-way tie on 38 points resulting in a couple of countbacks.

Stan Stewart won the second spot from Jim Ferris with Larry Slattery, back in form, fourth.

Brian Talbot has been in great form for the past few games. He wore the Green Jacket with 39 points, then beaten for the Jacket with 40 points and today another 40 points to miss the Jacket again. Winning “A” flight (0-17), not sure he is too worried.

Alan Humphries played his first game this trip to do well for second spot with 37 points to win a countback over Colm Lawlor, with Tony Browne coming back to form for 36 points and fourth.

Near Pins: Steve Baker (4), Derek Phillips (7 ), Maurice Roberts (13), Petur Petursson (17).

Huw Phillips had put the near pins in his golf bag in his car, then took a wrong turn on the drive back. This resulted in a waiting game to finalise the results. Phil decided a “silly hat” was due.

Andy May is a newcomer and found our golf courses too awesome and did not score well, so a “wig” for him.

Pattavia continues to be a testing course which many golfers enjoy.
