74 Golfers Gather for “Phil’s Birthday Bash” at Khao Kheow
It’s Phil’s Birthday, but he was giving out the presents. Golf has to be part of a successful Birthday Party and it should be colourful, so today we played Rainbow Tees. Players had to tee off from each of Yellow, White and Red Tees, 6 of each, any order they wish. This is where tactics come into play. Use to advantage.
As per our “Links Cup” there were prizes on every hole, some for “A”Flight, some for “B”Flight, and some for both. All that in addition to paying for 3 flights, each to 4 places.
Considering the extra large number of players, the whole field moved along at a good pace, and even though we were last group, no major hold ups.
We need to mention the condition of the course, and can only reiterate the reports from most of the other Societies that Khao Kheow is, it seems, always in top notch order. Thank You for that KK, the Marshals, and our Golf Captain, Mike King, who got all of the 18 groups away smoothly.
A Birthday party needs food, music, and fun! This night at Links Bar we had it all, a pig on the spit, BBQ chicken and the trimmings. Music by a local combo playing good old songs ( my opinion) with a volume just right. ( we could listen and enjoy, but still converse without yelling in someone’s ear.)
And then we had Phil, MC with the lot. Not your dull and boring golf presentations, but a light hearted, fun half hour . All the prize winners came forward, had a photo taken with Phil, (courtesy of Christian) received some witty comments or some cheers from the crowd all in good spirit.
In what has become a tradition at Pattaya Links Golf, ( well the 2nd time anyway) the coveted Green Jacket was presented to the player with the highest points total for the day. Amassing an amazing 51 Stableford points was Patrick Poussier.
At the other end of the scale was the worst score for the day and here Phil, with a brunette mens wig to present, had great fun moving around the bar teasing a number of would-be contenders . Finally settling on Aussie Kev Timbrell, who looked dashing with his new brown hair ( covering his normal grayish colour).
It was then time to mix and catch up, after a successful day, But wait! Someone in the crowd didn’t forget it was all about the Birthday Boy and started with the 3 cheers, which became louder with each one..
Planning ( and plotting) has started for next year. (don’t we age quick enough? 555)
The now expanded Pattaya Links Golf Society is a fun place from which to play golf while in Pattaya. Sign on sheets are on the Board at the Links Bar and all are welcome to our competitions held on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays.
Look for” Links Bar and Restaurant” towards the southern end of Soi Buakhow
