Links Golf Society 29/06

But good enough to continue his winning ways. Then Toby Glass nearly got him..

On a slightly overcast morning, after some rain during the night, 19 golfers set out for the short trip to Burapha Golf Club ready to tackle the A+B courses. Some were a little disappointed not getting to C+D, but maybe next time.

What can we say about this course not already said? Fairways are firm and cut to allow some run. After plenty of rain around that is a good effort. Greens, as always are quite quick and run true. One of our group thought they were getting quicker as the day wore on. With sunshine for all of the round, that is most likely. That is his excuse for having a best forgotten back nine, after a tearwaway 23 points on the front nine. No names here..but later..

Having 19 players, this allowed for 2 flights with 3 prizes in each, plus “Best Nines’

Selwyn Yates and Toby Glass have both recently become members of PSC and are playing off  handicaps given by our Links Committee. Note that both have been playing well and by this day they had each already been docked 4 strokes .

The scores overall for this round were very modest so, in fact, Selwyn and Toby each had the best points score at 35 pts. Only a close countback could separate them, with Selwyn getting the nod.  Phil Davies is never far from the action and placed third in “A” flight with 34 points.

Mick Coghlan gets around and in an irregular appearance at Links, managed to take top spot in “B” flight with just 34 points. But, hey, on this day, was better than the rest of the flight.

Second place went to a countback with Alan Walker edging out Mike Firkin by way of a better back nine. Both scoring 33 points.

During the presentation of the Green Jacket, Phil told Selwyn if he wins some more he will need to get a Jacket made up to keep. But right now he hands it back after the photo op.  We love to embarrass visitors, so today it was Charlie’s turn for the “Wig”, presented for the worst score of the day. Charlie was smiling.
