Links Golf Society 28/06
It seems golf in Pattaya is coming out of the “low season” slump as 19 players headed out to Pleasant Valley on this Wednesday in two mini busses and a car.
This course is not the favourite of many golfers, for various reasons, and I must say I have dodged it for a year or more. Having now played here again, I can now think of no reason why I would not come back.
The course appears to be undergoing some major renovations, on the fairways as well as the greens. The works are being done in a way as not to inconvenience players,so should be a nice enhancement when finished. Delighted to find the showers have also been upgraded. Certainly some money being spent.
There is one complaint, however. The Bunkers are way below standard. Many had been used as a playpen for dogs. On two occasions in our group alone, the ball had come to rest in dog footprints or even in diggings. I never saw a Caddy rake a bunker. Other groups reported the same. Maybe, with all the works happening, a little training or instruction to Caddies to rake bunkers would be a good move.
Two flights today, with 2 places in each, and also prizes for Best Nines.
“A” flight developed into a 3 way tussle with Mike Allidi winning a close countback to take top spot scoring 38 points ( that’s 73 gross).
John Edwards, equalled Mike’s 19 points on the back nine, so we went down to the last 6 to get a result.
Bob Watson also scored 38 points, but lost the first countback. Very close indeed!
“B” flight was more clean cut, with John Anderson amassing 37 points to edge out Len Jones with 35 points.
Len, graceful in defeat, suggested John deserved the win after having 35 points on Monday and place nowhere behind Selwyn Yates 48 points. Nice thought Len.
Those players who have won nothing else now get a chance to win a Best Nine.
Best Front Nine…….Mike Firkin…….21 pts.. c/back to last 3
Best Back Nine……..Dave Hewson….20 pts
Winner….”A” Flight…….Mike Allidi (3)…………38pts c/bac

It was an Italian theme back at Links Bar with a big serving of Lasagne for the golfers.
Phil presented Mike with the coveted Green Jacket and then looked for a suitable candidate for the “Wig”. There were two “wanna be”s” but only one made it back to the Bar, Bryan Barrel happily became a brunette for a while.
