Captain Wayne Takes Charge
It may be a hackneyed saying but “ how good does it get?”. Two days ago Links Golf played at the beautiful Laem Chabang Golf Course. Today it was the equally beautiful ( although quite different) Royal Lakeside on our menu and twenty golfers came to experience the luxurious, fairways and excellent, good paced and true, greens.
Added to this, a fine day with a cooling breeze to make things just right for golf.
Having a smaller field (this is relative, of course) we played one flight with four places and the novelties.
On a day with above average scores, which we have come to expect at this course, Club Captain, Wayne Peppernell, led the way with his second handicap beating score this week, an excellent 40 points. This gave him the win and the Green Jacket.
Paul Smith was close behind on 39 points. Eric Black followed up a 36 points game on Monday to grab third spot with 38 points today.
That was the easy part for the scorer. Now we had a four-way tie on 37 points so a countback was needed to separate them all. After two went out on the first count the remaining two went to the last six, and it was Phil Davies, still in fine form, getting the nod to give him fourth place.
Then followed three scores of 36, but they don’t count. Sorry.
Near Pins: Paul Smith (3), John Pierrel (6), Phil Davies (12), Paul Smith (15).
Winners at Royal Lakeside
1st Place – Wayne Peppernell (15) – 40 pts
2nd Place – Paul Smith (4) – 39 pts
3rd Place – Eric Black (15) – 38 pts
4th Place – Phil Davies (12) – 37 pts c/back
Best Front Nine ( non winners) – Derek Phillips – 20 pts
Best Back Nine ( non winners) – Tip Briney – 20 pts
No “silly hat” or “wig” this time. We can’t say the would-be recipient of the “silly hat” did a runner as George would never have thought that 13 points was the lowest nine hole score.
The lowest score of the day was 27 points but Phil couldn’t bring himself to make that player wear the “wig’. 27 points is not that bad and has been on the podium some days, after all.
To complete a near perfect day, all were back to the Bar early to sample Joy’s first attempt at making Pad Thai as the golfers’ complimentary meal. The vote? A resounding thumbs up. Well done Joy.
