Links Golf Society 18/12
PSC Golf ..Pattaya Links Golf Society..Royal Lakeside…Mon..Dec.18…S/ford
Walsh Posts 40 Points in The Wind.
A visit to Royal Lakeside is always a treat for golfers and on Monday, 18 December the Pattaya Links Golf Society did just that, with twenty one golfers keen to test their skills against this splendidly presented course on the outskirts of Bangkok.
Fairways were lush, although as with most courses now, starting to develop some dry spots due to lack of rain. Bunkers well tended and the quick and consistent greens were as good as any the group have played in the past few months.
Wind ! Mick Coghlan made the statement early that the wind would die down soon. He failed to mention which day.. As it seemed to increase rather than decrease. Not good for the golfers who get some altitude into their shots. Yours truly tends to stay under the wind 555. However made for a pleasant walk.
Normally this course allows for some good scores, and, although the wind did play havoc with shot making, there were still many very good score cards coming in.
None better than that of Chris Walsh with a sparkling 40 points on a difficult day. He did mention as he handed over his card that “it was the best day at golf I can remember”. Nicely done.
It was a day for the Irish, as Chris’s countryman, Colm O’Donovan was right behind with an excellent 39 points, after a bit of a ragged start.
Next in line came the Canadians. Rod Stevens scored a handicap beating 38 points to beat his compatriot, Harry Lankoff, who scored 35 points after surviving a three way countback.
Having 21 players it was one flight only, but there were four near pin prizes to be won.
Tony Browne ( hole 3), Rod Stevens (6), Len Jones (12), Colm O’Donovan (15)
Then the best nines:
Best Front Nine ( non winners)…..John Malet De Cateret…20 pts
Best Back Nine (non winners)….. Mike Wilsher……………..17 pts c/back
Winner ………Chris Walsh (24)………………..40 pts
2nd Place………Colm O’Donovan (20)…………39 pts
3rd Place………Rod Stevens (24)……………..38 pts.
4th Place………Harry Lankoff (19)…………..35 pts. c/back
Some worried looks as one of our 3 buses did not want to start. But someone found some jumper leads, and after some false hope, the engine fired into life, and we were on our way home.
Our driver took a short cut to avoid Pattaya Klang, don’t know why, and ended up in a grid lock in a very small Soi, resulting in reversing all the way back to Pattaya Tai. Just added to the long trip.
Len Jones conducted presentations, by then it was dark and most soon disappeared into the night.
Pattaya Links Golf Society is a PSC affiliated, friendly group and welcomes golfers of all levels. We play Monday ,Wednesday and Friday.” Links” Bar is towards the Southern end of Soi Buakhow.
