Links Golf Society 17/10

  Pattaya Links Golf Society..Greenwood..A+C….Fri.  Oct.17…..S/Ford.

Déja Vu for Darren

For the second time in three weeks the Pattaya Links Golf Society visited Greenwood to play a stableford competition on the A and C nines. On the previous visit the course was very wet and played extremely long but this time carts were allowed full access, but just in case, the group played from the yellow tees. The course was in good condition, only slightly soft and the greens were good, even if the C nine greens were a little quicker than the front nine.

The field was divided into two flights at fifteen and under and in the top flight Livio Marrone edged Chris Barker into third place on countback, his 34 points giving him second place. The flight winner was Kevin Rogers with 38 points.

In the second flight countback was used to decide the minor places with Pierre Zbinden’s 37 points taking preference over Wayne Peppernell’s fine efforts.

The flight winner was Darren Beavers, winner here three weeks ago, with 38 points, and as a bonus his back nine was better than that of Kevin Rogers so he took the green jacket as well.

Near pins went to Kevin Rogers (A2), Tony Browne (A6), Ron Matthews (C3) and Tim Dale (C6.)

Masa Takano’s 19 points on the front nine was the best of the non winners as was Derek Phillips in a run of 20 points on the C nine.

The “wig” went to Mike Firkin after a desperate round saw him leave his card under the windscreen wiper of the captain’s car in order to preserve anonymity, whilst the “silly hat” award went to newbie John Innes for his poor back nine.

Greenwood is slowly getting back to its best after a long damp spell and next month it should be back up there again.
