A Little Local Difficulty

The Pattaya Links Golf Society went local on Friday, 14th December when they visited Pattaya CC to play a stableford competition from the white tees in two divisions, cut at eighteen and under.

The course was in good condition and well grassed fairways ended in quick greens. Sadly, a little early Christmas spirit may have affected the greenkeeper, as pins were placed on or near the top of the slopes thus making putting a problem.

Forty golfers made good progress in very comfortable breezy conditions and the scores in both flights reflected the problems that were present.

In the second flight fourth place went to Bryan Barrell with 32 points and his near-pin on seventeen gave him his most successful week with PLGS. In third was Graham Pratt with 33 points. Wot? No wig? Certainly not this time and he is to be congratulated for putting up with all the friendly banter and showing he can come good.

Second place went to Frank Riley with 35 points. The flight winner was Alan Spencer with 36 points.

In the top flight fourth place went to Steve Truelove with 34 points and the honour of the best gross score. Ahead of him was a trio of level par golfers with countbacks identifying John Harrison as the winner, ahead of Colin Service and Stan Stewart,

Near pins went to Tony Browne (5), Wayne Peppernell (7), Maurice Roberts (12) and Bryan Barrell (17)

The best front nine award went to Nigel Harrison with 22 points. The best back nine award went to Niels Peter Kristensen with 21 points.

3rd Place…………………Graham Pratt (25)………………….33 pts

4th Place…………………Bryan Barrell (31)………………32 pts

Finally the “wig” went to Kevin LaBar for the first time after a more than lack lustre round whilst the “silly hat” went to Tip Briney who turned up unannounced at the bar in the morning expecting to play, thus relegating a reserve golfer.

It was a useful and timely reminder that signups are essential these days with fields of forty-plus going out most days.

Thus another week ended with PLGS. One hundred and twenty rounds played, with some notable successes and thoroughly enjoyed by all.
