Big Adam Scores Big
While “low season” prices prevail, we took the opportunity to play at the beautiful Pattana Golf Course once again.
This course is always presented in immaculate condition and today it lived up to that high standard.
We played B+C courses today, but any of the 3 would have done as well. Fairways cut to near perfection, rough still gets hold of the club at times, and the greens in very good order.
I never tire of the beautiful backdrop to the B9 fairway and green. The spectacle of the Club House overlooking that area makes you realise how lucky we are to be able to play this course, in this Country.
Twenty four starters today, so suggesting people like playing here, and all 6 groups got around the 18 holes in good time, even considering the brief shower about halfway. 3 minutes, I think.
In my time here in Thailand playing golf, I cannot remember the cut to decide “A” and “B” flights being what we had today. 0-11 and 12+ was the way it happened. Rare to cut so low, I think. We have some pretty good golfers around at the moment.
The “B” flight topped the scoring today with a great effort from 13 handicapper, and regular visitor, Adam Barton. I watched on as he put together a big 41 points.
He’s not used to being called a “B” grader, but Phil Davies ran a good second to Adam, amassing a very respectable 38 points, showing a welcome return to form. That name Gawron appeared again for the second game in a row, Greg was in third spot with 33 points.
In the “A” flight, it was visitor John Carlton scoring a winning 38 points. In the same group as Adam, I watched him also. Didn’t seem to rub off..
Another memorable round from the talented Paul Smith . Here he is with a playing handicap of 2, makes 37 points ( 73 gross) and can only manage second place…That’s how tight it was today.
Stephen Hughes, playing his second game with us, did well with 36 points for third.
We decided to have four near pin prizes for this round and all were won.
Greg Gawron ( B3), John Carlton (B7),Masa Tanako (C2), Bob Watson (C7).
So, with two flights and four near pins, we looked towards the best scores on the front and back nines, for anyone who had not yet won anything.
Best Front Nine….Steve Truelove……20 pts
Best Back Nine….Bill Winslow……….18 pts on c/back
Winner..”A” Flight …….John Carlton (11)………….38 pts
2nd Place……………..Paul Smith (2)…………….37pts
3rd Place………………Stephen Hughes (11)……..36pts
Winner “B” Flight………Adam Barton (13)………..41 pts
2nd Place………………Phil Davies (12)………….38pts
3rd Place………………Greg Gawron (17)……….33 pts
It’s not often that the Green Jacket actually fits the recipient, but Adam is just the right size.
Sport, and particularly golf, can be exhilarating or cruel. John Pierrel had both this week. After scoring 43 points at Bangpakong earlier in the week, came down to earth with a thud, being presented with the “Wig” for the least flattering score of the day. It will only inspire him!!
Here’s hoping the green fees stay down a little longer so we can get back to beautiful Pattana.
