Jesper Hansen Impressive 38 points at Bangpra

Where are the Monkeys? My caddy’s explanation was “ it’s Songkran, they’re hiding” Seems reasonable given that our group saw none until about the 14th hole.

There were some very good scores today, but also some scores returned by some who would prefer  to never see that card again. Hey! That’s golf, for better or worse.

This course was in much better condition than I had been led to believe. Fairways had plenty of grass, the greens were slower than many expected, but still tricky enough. The only complaint, if you call it that, are the bunkers being packed and a little stony. Best not to get into them..

Bearing in mind this is the quietest time of year for golf for various reasons, player numbers today were a very good 22 starters, so that enabled two flights.

“A” flight ( 0-16) winner was Steve Truelove, who is on a bit of a roll. He won’t count his 35 points as one of his best but good enough to win the flight today.

Monday’s winner Mogens Melander carried on his good form to take 2nd with 33 points ahead of  Gerd Reidler , playing with us after a long absence, on 30 points.

“B” flight (17+) saw the best score of the day from Jesper Hansen on 38 points to be only one of two players to play to handicap or better. Torben Lingaard was the other, taking 2nd spot with 36 points followed by a steady 34 points from John Anderson.

Near pins were placed on 2 of the Par 3s , one for each of A and B flights.

“A” flight managed to get no one on the green. Huw Philips asked if being on for a brief moment counted, before it rolled off. Sorry Huw, no!

John Anderson got on the green on hole 8, not by much, but good enough.

Best front 9 ( non winner) ..Adam Barton…..18 pts

Best back 9 ( non winner)…Gerner Lykke….15 pts

There were three contenders for the coveted”Wig” all on the same (undisclosed ) points. As two had been previous recipients it was decided that John Mason should have the honour. As the decision was being made,John had already pre empted by rolling up with his own (blue) wig. Well done John!

In the photo with John is Jesper Hansen, the Green Jacket looking like a good fit
