And The Winner Is?…. Treasure Hill

As twenty four golfers boarded buses and cars on a fine, slightly overcast morning, the main topic was how to play the tricky Treasure Hill course.

The great price of 1250 bht all in makes this a must do, but also the condition of the course is currently first rate. There is plenty of work happening to make it even better, with new tee boxes and upgrading of some fairways, while the greens are running nicely.

The starter sent our first four-ball off 15 minutes early and they set a good pace, finishing in well under four hours.

Now the big question of who won, the golfers or the course? As not one of the twenty four starters could play to handicap, it must surely go down as a win for the course.

Paul Smith carried on his Green Jacket form from Friday to score 33 points in a head to head with Dave Hewson, returning from injury, scoring the same but beaten on countback.

Paul Chesney is not in the winners list often enough but this time beat off two other contenders, scoring 32 points to take third place on countback over Donal McGuigan and Derek Phillips.

Even the near pin prizes tell the story as no player was able to get on the green at the two hundred yard, Par3, second.

Near pins: Nobody on (2), John Pierrel (6), Phil Davies (13), Iain Jones (17)

Winners Treasure Hill

1st  Place – Paul Smith (4) -33 pts c/back

2nd Place – Dave Hewson (9) – 33 pts

3rd Place – Paul Chesney (21) – 32 pts c/back

4th Place –  Donal McGuigan (19) – 32 pts c/back

5th Place –  Derek Phillips (16) – 32  pts

Best Front Nine ( non winers) – Kenny Jepson – 19 pts

Best Back Nine ( non winners) – Bill Copeland – 18 pts

Due to the renovations of the tee boxes, some of the white tees were placed further back than normal seemingly making the course longer. Maybe that can be the excuse for the low scores?

There were four contenders for the “silly hat”, all with 10 points on a nine, so needing a countback. But rather than single one player out, Phil put it to the vote to award the hat or not. It was a resounding victory for Not..

The “wig” also stayed in the cupboard today.

A nice early finish, back to Links, food and presentations done and a large part of the afternoon left to ponder what might have been… Next time Treasure Hill!
