Bookends Take The Plaudits At Bangpakong

This Monday started as a bright, sunny day when 17 golfers set out from “Links Bar” for the trip to Bangpakong. A slightly longer trip than most courses we play, but in our Mini bus we had an easy and pleasant trip up the “7”.

Check in was swift and painless and we were very soon at the first Tee. Once again it was easy to see this course was in it’s usual immaculate condition. We found the Fairways with plenty of grass  and mown to allow the ball to sit up nicely to make for easy hitting.

The Greens looked good and ran truly. Maybe  it’s because your scribe putted well that we say that? But one of my playing partners was also pleased he had many less” three putts ‘than his previous outing. Bunkers were damp, but we have had some rain lately..

John Davis and Mick Coghlan signed in together and joined us for a rare appearance.

John played a great game to finish atop the podium with a big 40 points, looking even better since we played from the longer White Tees at a total of 6685 yards.

His compatriot and fellow signee, Mick, finished at the complete opposite end and happily donned the “Wig” for the lowest score of the day to make perfect bookends. It was good to see the “Wig” make a return, as it was to see the Green Jacket which almost fitted John.

Phil Davies shook his head when he was handed the envelopes to find he had won the countback for second place. His 38 points was a terrific performance, along with the beautifully dressed Walter  Baechli also on 38 points.

We had enough players to re introduce the Best Nines for those not winning any other prizes.

Best Front Nine …Christian Boysen ..16 pts

Best Back Nine…..Mike Allidi………20 pts

Winner ……….John Davis (14)…………40pts

Phil Davies (12)………..38 pts  on c/back

Walter Baechli (16)…….38 pts

It was great to see the golfers coming back after a rather lean period in Pattaya. All enjoyed a perfect day out at the beautiful Bangpakong Course. Back at Links Bar the golfer’s complimentary meal arrived as the tall stories about what could have been surfaced.
