PSC Golf …Pattaya Links Golf Society…..Greenwood “A”and “C”…. Wed..Mar 1
Wow! Massive Numbers Turn Out for the 23rd Monthly “Links Cup’
The day started quietly enough as I sat at Links Bar at 7.00am and ordered breakfast. This day was to become very busy indeed.
This, the 23rd “Links Cup” drew a field of 85 keen as mustard golfers. They came from all around Pattaya and the World ( holiday makers and ex- pats) including a large contingent from The Bunker Boys golf society.
It is great to see the different groups in Pattaya supporting each other, well done Bunker Boys, but also well done to the many golfers who normally play out of other Bars. Great to see you.
As the sign- up grew, by Tuesday night, it was apparent we needed to have a 2 Tee start, so with the cooperation of the Greenwood Management we teed off from A1 and C1. So well managed was it, that the crossover, for our group at least, was seamless, it was like changing nines any other day.
The “Links Cup” offers heaps of prizes. There was a prize on every hole, from near pins to longest first putt, to closest 2nd shot on par 4s and the Keg of beer from Sponsor ,TOUCH Agogo. This was on the C9 fairway and was “closest to the keg”, Beauty!.
For the novelty prizes there were 2 flights, but because we had such a large number of players, it was decided to split into 3 flights with 4 places in each for the main prizes.
What happened?? 18 novelty prizes to be won , but one went begging. 85 players and no name on the pin.. So a Lucky Draw for the remaining prize. First out wasn’t here ( must have been the only one..) the redraw was won by.. Wait for it..Yes, Lucky Phil !
Greenwood Golf course is a pleasure to play, especially those of us who are scared of water. It seems the course is always in very fine condition, and although a little damp in places, particularly around the greens, allowed some quite good, but not crazy, scores to be had.
For those who know or have been to Links Bar ( if you haven’t yet, come pay a visit)will wonder how we managed to fit 80 people inside and outside. I didn’t do a head count, but there was standing room only by the time the presentations started.
And so, to the Presentations. A Thank You speech from Christian, then Phil took over the Microphone to present the prizes. Not everyone was a winner, but plenty were.
The well stocked and varied Smorgasbord was eagerly surrounded when Phil announced “ food’s on!.” Unable to get an evening Chef, Maurice decided to become acting Chef.. he could give up his day job, it was very nice thank you. Maurice was very ably assisted by Joy and Moon.
Many stayed on for a couple more cold ones.. As he walked past me just before presentations, Phil remarked “ it’s all going according to plan” and for that many people have to be thanked, but it can only really work with the cooperation of all the golfers attending . Thanks Everyone. See you next Month, if not before.
