The Growling Swan 31/10

Bangpra – October, 2015.

STEVE (isn’t getting any) YOUNGER makes it 2 in a row and threatens to make it 3!!!! Stay tuned!

It was 26 eager golfers that turned out to play Bangpra GC, or better known as the infamous “Monkey Course. Eagerness meaning that no one knew what the course would offer up, given the amount of rain that has hit Pattaya over the last week or so. Surprisingly we were to play with carts being allowed on the fairways. The drainage system at this course must be top rate as with little signs of water on the course, many of the cups were full of water.

We hadn’t played here for some time, and as we entered the course it all came back to me. The facilities and politeness of the staff is top rate, the course is like a picture postcard but, it is a long hard course. We played from the white tees, the course was in very good condition with the greens  playing true. So it was all set for some good scores, or was it? As per recent times, it looked like rain would intervene, but it held off and a gentle breeze kept playing conditions very pleasant.

Well it was Steve Younger, continuing on his very good form, taking out A Flight and The Monthly Mug by the smallest of margins from Buffalo Bill Steinmann. Bill had managed to keep Mashi out of second place again by the smallest of margins.

B Flight saw Wan Makmul showing a clean pair of heels to the rest of that field. Second and third went to the count back system with John Anderson taking out second with Alex Field coming in third. One finds it amazing that since Gentlemen John has taken a rest from doing the score cards he appears to be winning more count backs, was he sharing things around?

Back at the Swan we welcomed Back Bill Steinmann, Paul Hack, Bernie McCart, Simon Niven, Bill Shooter McGarvie and the famous 4 Dick, Wan, Nat and Tun. We thank you for joining us and hope you had a great day (and evening)

With only one farewell we celebrated the time that Graeme Rice spent with us. Although a little premature in saying goodbye we decided that Mug Day was a fitting occasion to do this. (Mug Day not having any reflection on the man) As mine host said “he was a pleasure to have around always happy and always laughing, would do anything to help out, Ricey you will be sadly missed” I think that Peter had a tear in his eye but I am not certain if its because he will miss Ricey or is it the thought of his sales of Sanmig falling away!

A special thank you to Niall Stuart, Casa Rifkin and The Growling Swan for catering for this night. Please pat yourselves on the back as the food was excellent and I am sure that nobody went hungry!

In the photo from left to right is Steve Younger & Wan Makmul.

Fred Dineley took D-For for a walk around the bar he was very happy with what he rec and enjoys the fact that all monies collected go to the needy in Pattaya. We have under gone a few projects in recent times so please watch this space for an update as to where we are at!

We look forward to any newcomers be it Men or women to join us for serious golf with a dash of fun on Mondays and Thursdays. For bookings contact Peter Grey on 086 150 3086.
