STROKE – “MONTHLY MUG”
Crystal Bay – 31st July, 2017
“Big Ronny Mugs The Field”
“A REMINDER TO ALL THAT THURSDAY THE 10TH IS “SPAGONI MEMORIAL DAY”. SHEET IS ON THE BOARD, THE MORE THE MERRIER!”
A good size group of 22 golfers headed out to Crystal Bay to tackle the B & C courses. Conditions were bright and sunny, with a slight breeze about. Being Mug Day we played off the Yellow Tees.
Greetings were handed out to Rona, Tom McMahon, Niall Stuart & Phil Taylor. The Hasting Boys, Rocky Lawson, Peter McDonald and Rob Cross we also welcomed, along with an old favourite Geri Crilly and a first time visitor to Thailand Steve Isaacs, who was also given a farewell.
As we warmed up on the first tee it was noticed that Steve Younger felt a bit sore. Think he might have been sparring with Jockey the previous night.
Two Divisions were required and the A Grade was taken out by Keith Buchanan, whose form has been pretty solid of late, with a net 70. Two shots back saw Paul Hack sneak into 2nd position just ahead of Paul Smith on a countback. Paul Hack was lucky enough to have his mum in the bar to give him a congratulatory kiss on the cheek, and a “well done son, but next time you need to win”. Paul Smith also deserves a mention winning 3 near pins and running third.
B Division was taken out by Ron Gillett with a net 69. Ron stays at Diana Estates and is seen quite often putting in hours of practice on the driving range up there, so well done Ronny. 2nd spot was filled by Geri Crilly who has not played too much of late with a net 71 with Jockey coming in 3rd with a net 74, which included a chip in birdie 4 on par 5 B3
So given the above, the Monthly Mug was awarded to Ron Gillett, who won by a short half head (one shot) from Keith Buchanan. It was Ron’s first Monthly Mug win and was quick to tap Jayson Schembri on the shoulder to fill up his mug with a nice cold Leo.
