Maw Mauls His Rivals To Snatch Monthly Mug

“SPONSORED BY STEVE YOUNGER”

A good size group of 28 golfers headed out to Greenwood, some nursing bigger Christmas hangovers than others, to compete for December’s Monthly Mug, which of course is a stroke event, and is kindly sponsored by Steve Younger. Many thanks from all to Steve.

The course was in pretty good shape, with a few wet patches here and there. A stiff breeze was constant throughout the 18 holes, and made club selection quite tricky.

Greetings were handed out to Tom McMahon, Chris Stevenson, Sal Brizzi, Khan Speechley, Paul Taylor, Brendan Cope, Allan Ray, Glenn Smith, Steve Younger after a fiscally challenged Cambodian jaunt and Nolan Wise, who made it to his correct hotel room after his first night in town, which was a pleasant change. Finally, greetings to “Ness” We actually may find out his real name one day.

Being the Christmas New Year period there were no farewells.

Two Divisions was required and the A Grade winner went to the inform Dave Maw whose all-round strong game saw him net an impressive Net 71 off his 14 Handicap. Dave won by a 3 shot margin from both Paul Taylor and “Buffalo” Bill Steinmann, both with Net 74. Paul Taylor edging out Bill by the way of a countback. Fourth placing was filled by Peter Zwart with Net 75.

B Grade was won by Allan Ray Net 75, Andrew “Turtle” Allan, who states he is not a fan of Greenwood, may change his mind after coming second with a Net 77. Jayson Schembri just edged out playing partner Volker Buley by way of a countback, both having Net 78. Volker might rue his 11 on the 16th, after a consistent round.

Thus the above results saw Dave Maw win his first, but maybe not his last, Growling Swan Monthly Mug…well played Dave. Dave has and still does play a lot of golf in Pattaya, so we hope to see more of him in the future, as he has blended in well with everyone here.

Special mention to Nolan Wise who was very keen to talk about his 3 stroke par on one of the Par 3’s until someone quickly reminded him that we would rather talk through the 15 he had on the previous hole!  Very entertaining for the Caddies is our Nolan.
