Growling Swan 14/04

Ricey comes up Trumps on a close game.

With Songkran upon us golfers were at a shortage unlike the water that is being tossed about here in Pattaya, it’s a time of year that brings back sad memories to us all here at The Swan. Twelve months ago we lost an avid golfer and a good friend in Mark Henkel. Mark we all miss you and our thoughts are with your family. It still amazes this writer that so many deaths result from this stupid celebration yet they continue to celebrate every year. The mind boggles!

Thirteen ventured out to tackle Emerald GC, a course that was referred to as the desert track, (as in the lack of green on the fairways) Well I can say that is now the opposite, having played the course on 3 occasions in the last month. It is now one of the lush courses that plays well, my only complaint is the pin placements. Other than that a pleasure to play. Weather was on the warm side with little breeze on offer!

Welcomes were extended to Gary Monley returning from Aust, good to see you Gary and more importantly good to see you out having a game. We got a call from a Panel Beating shop in Banchang (who look after Emerald’s golf cart repairs) and they passed on their regards and also said good to see you back Gary.

Farewells to Ebrahim heading home for a few weeks break and also to Graham Preston and Tony Campbell heading back to Aust. For those interested The Grey (NAGA) Cap went as follows; Preston 2, Campbell 1 & Grey 1.

Our next game of golf is on Thursday the 21st at Parichat Golf Course.

1st – Graham Rice (13) 34 points

2nd – Ebrahim (17) 33 points

3rd – Jason Schembri (17) 31 points

5th – Lindsay Slender

7th – Steve Younger

13th – Steve Younger

15th – Phil Taylor

Longest First Putts

9th – Bernie McCart

18th – D-For !

Our resident charity hound D-For had a day off today, we took him out to the course. After chasing a couple of lizards and the odd rabbit or 2 he was plumb tuckered out and asked to have the afternoon off.

The GS is a friendly golf outlet and caters for and encourages all golfers male and female to have a hit at any of our weekly outings. We generally play Mondays and Thursdays at one of the many fine golf courses in and around Pattaya. Please contact Peter Grey if you are interested on 0861 503086.

The Growling Swan also caters to the bowls enthusiasts. Bus transport departs the GS on Sundays at 10am for open grass bowling at The Retreat. The cost including return bus transport, bowling fees and a hot lunch is less than 400 baht so great value for a day out.
