Growling Swan 10/08

Aaron and Ronny make it 2 from 4 as Pazz and Andrew get their first.

Well another year has passed and we are heading out to play Plutaluang in memory of Tony Olcorn (Spagoni) who unfortunately passed away on this course 4 years ago.

Forty players turned out to play which in itself as a great recognition of Tony. It needs to be mentioned that 12 guys flew in from Brisbane Australia to take part in this day, and they were; Aaron Shorten, Jason Grainger, Wayne Johnson, Mick Seaton, Butcha Seaton, Dave Marshall, Mick Boyd, Michael McKechnie and Mick MacGregor. Not all of these guys played but they did come to celebrate the day that we have for Tony!

A special mention goes to Mick MacGregor who was involved with a lot of the organization of this day and does so every year. Well done again Mick!

The Growling Swan were also good in their numbers, it’s on days like this that you do realize just how much The Aussies do rally when needed! I guess Tony will not be forgotten whilst we celebrate this day.

Once again the Queenslanders visited the Pattaya Orphanage and shelled out some big bucks supplying this organization with food and goods to help cater for the many.

As it turned out with a couple of “No Shows” (these will not be named and shamed) we took the field with 8 groups of 4 and 2 groups of 3. We played from the Yellow Tees and played North and West nines, the Marshall on the day let us have  two starting points this meant that 5 groups went from North and the other 5 groups teed from West course. Certainly cuts waiting time down.

The course was in good condition and the weather was on our side although it did get a bit warmer as the day wore on.

1st Grp 1. Ian Parry, Aaron Shorten, Andrew Allen & Ron Gillette. (12.2) 52.8 Nett.

3rd Grp 4. Steve Younger, Greg Proctor, John Anderson & Dick Braimbridge (12.1) 53.9 Nett.

Then came these groups; 2, 9, 5, 10, 6, 8 & 3.

It should be noted that Group 8 captained by Peter MacDonald were very unlucky they had the first pull out and had to play the Sub!

Back at ‘The Swan’ all was reflected as to how it went or how it could have gone. Fourty players is a big field and this scribe reckons it all went off without a hitch. “Everything went to plan” as one golfer reported to me. It was a great day with a great crew of golfers, “Tony you would have been proud of us”!

Peter Grey was thanked for the fine spread of food which I have to say was polished off in no time at all.

Plans are that we are to gather here Saturday and celebrate with A Pig on the Spit washed down by numerous cold ones. Be there or be square!

D-for (our charity collector mutt) was given the day off but some very generous punters found a way to get some cash to him. Thank you Guys .

The GS is a friendly golf outlet and welcomes golfers of all persuasions. We generally play on Mondays and Thursdays at any one of the fine courses around Pattaya. For some serious golf with a dash of fun, please contact Peter Grey for bookings or any information on 0861 503086.

We hope to see you all back here next year!!!!!!!!!!!
