The Golf Club 3/11

A few tricks, a few treats.

Monday 30th – Green Valley – Monthly Medal – White Tees

1st – Steve Hogan (21) net 66

2nd – Fred Graham (16) net 67

3rd – Steve Mulberry (14) net 69

T – 4th – Jareeporn Thomas (28) net 70

T – 4th – Bob Newell (9) net 70

My how time flies, and another Monthly Medal showdown was on the cards at Green Valley. A good field of 24 of Pattaya’s finest were up for the test and some good scores made for a close contest.

The course was in perfect shape save for a few spots of the wet. It is pretty much back to its best condition and ready for the high season now. Let’s start off with our Caddy smile near pin which was won by visiting Englishman Jason Luczyniec. Jayski plays off a 5 handicap with a deadly short game, so no surprises there.

Nice to see our mates from the Siam members out with us and me ol’ mate Mr. Mulberry back in form for third spot. Bob Newell had to share a podium with JP Thomas, but she doesn’t need too much room. Poor Freddy Graham thought he was in the money but just missed out by a shot to Steve Hogan taking his first for the Australians. Steve chose the claret Antigua shirt for his first star and good luck for many more. With a name like Hogan, what did you expect?

Jason, Dusty, Gordon & Steve back at the ranch.

Tuesday 31st – Pattavia – Stableford – White Tees

1st – Jason Luczyniec (5) 35 points

T-2nd – Steve Ellison (20) 34 points

T-2nd – Dusty Miller (16) 34 points

Pattavia Century is in excellent condition. That said, you may still hate it here as the greens are now probably the most challenging in Pattaya. They are lightning fast, and with some pin placements, just unfair when faced with a downhill putt. That said, most of the guys raved about the course and can’t wait to get back.

Visitors Jason Luczyniec and Dusty Miller handled the course well and I made a few putts to get sandwiched in the middle to tie for second. Out from Manila with the Gonads tour, Gordon McGinn joined us and took the near pin on the day.

Kenny, Jason, Butch (on the chicken) and Ed on LK Metro.

Thursday 2nd – Greenwood B & C – Stableford – White Tees

1st – John Furneaux (12) 37 points

2nd – Kenny Aihara (6) 34 points

T – 3rd – Richie McGhee (2) 32 points

T – 3rd – Ed McIlvenna (18) 32 points

Glorious Greenwood certainly lived up to her name as Capt. Phil commented he had never seen the course in better shape. All those rains have done a world of good in the area and the 6,599 yard track was just fantastic with fast greens and lush fairways.

Sharpshooter Jayski was there again for the near pin, and Malaga pal Ed McIlvenna hit the leaderboard with 32 points. Kenny edged out returning Richie McGhee in a low handicap slugfest. Winner winner with the chicken dinner (literally) was Butch Furneaux 3 points clear at 37 with the strips and chips going down a treat!

Friday 3rd – Crystal Bay B & C – Stableford – White Tees

1st – Gary Bright (11) 35 points

2nd – Dusty Miller (16) 33 points

3rd – Ed McIlvenna (18) 32 points

The Malaga Maulers were with us all week and boy do those lads know how to party! It was great fun to have them join us and the former British Marines foursome will be bringing more of the forces from the 45 Commandos with them next time, right Bish? Many thanks for the gift of the shield, our newest TGC addition to the walls.

Dusty and Ed were on the podium again, but big Gary Bright took top spot with 35 points while Rob McFarlane finally made good with the near pin win.
