JAN LOVGREEN AND PETER BYGBALLE TAME THE BEAST

CAFÉ KRONBORG AT PATTAVIA 28TH FEB 2019

Cafe Kronborg played Pattavia on Thursday 28th February, where the course was like an unrelenting beast. The course was in good condition and the greens not too fast, but on the day it played really hard, with several players seeing good shots come up short and many a short putt missed. I don’t know if it was the soft ground conditions, the high humidity or wind which caused approach shots to drop short of their mark or whether it was the pin positions or the length of the greens which made putting oh so difficult. Either way most of the field really struggled today.

Back in the clubhouse the cards bore witness to the days carnage. No-one managed to beat their handicap and only two players made 36 points with the rest of the field lagging far behind.

There were 2 flights with the A flight 0 to 23 and the B flight 24 and above.

The A Flight winner was Peter Bygballe with a classy 36 points, Peter seems to relish the challenge of this course and usually manages to do well here. Following far behind, taking second place was Richard Kubicki with 30 points, too many missed short putts and driving issues preventing a better score. In third place was Lotte Boskov with 29 points, Lotte making her first podium finish since her return 3 weeks ago.

In B Flight the winner was the omnipresent Jan Lovgreen with another great score of 36 points, Jan continuing his great form of the last few weeks. Peter Hammond had a superb 33 points despite struggling with the dreaded short putts, if a few more of these dropped an easy victory would have been the result. Third place was decided on a three way countback, three players having 29 points. Countback Queen Birgit Jorgensen once again won the countback with a strong 17 points on the back, losing out were Arne Max Pedersen with 16 points and Karen Brown with 14 points.

The journey back was a reflective affair, many people thinking of what might have been. All should remember that this was Pattavia the Beast at its most destructive.
