Cafe Kronborg 18/1

Cafe Kronborg played at Plutaluang Navy Course on Thursday 18th January, where the allocated 18 holes were East and South, which we haven’t played in a while. The course was in reasonable condition, with greens running slow as usual and some with an odd patch of damage. Generally if you hit the putt hard enough on the right line it went in. Expecting North & West our chosen tees were the forward yellow tees, which made the East and South course somewhat shorter, but not necessarily that much easier.

The journey took longer than expected due to the heavy Pattaya traffic and a detour near the course where construction had closed the road. Diversion signs were not clear & obviously in Thai. All in all a three point turn and a brief chat with a friendly local and we were soon back on route. It now seems that all courses are 50 or more minutes away from Pattaya.

We tee’d off on time and the round went on with no delays and in about 4 and a half hours we were back in the clubhouse. Here the cards showed that some people found the course easier than others.

There were 2 flights with the A flight 0 to 20 and the B flight 21 and above.

The A Flight winner was Rob Brown with the best score of the day, a superb 43 points off his 10 handicap, that would be 75 off the stick and it could have easily been better apparently! This made the Brown’s top scorers for the week, Karen his wife having had the best score on Monday. In 2nd place was Ronnie Ratte with a great 40 points, again this could easily have been better with a bit more luck. Third place was taken by Henning Olsen with 35 points, continuing his return to form. The very pleasant John Sichlau, one of the newbies, came 4th with a solid 34 points.

In B Flight Kaj Aabling had another superb score winning B flight with 41 points. It will soon be time for Kaj to join the “big boys” in A flight. Second and third place were decided on countback where Carole Kubicki took 2nd place with a sound 37 points and a countback of 20 points on the last 9. In third place also with 37 points, but with 19 on the back was Jan Lovgreen. Torben Sorensen took 4th spot with 34 points. A write up just wouldn’t be the same if I didn’t mention Torben and Jan!
