A big influx of visitors for today’s round at the Thai Navy course including Keith Hemmings, Roger Touhy, Sam Gersholm, and Arne Sorgensen. We were offered a choice as to which nines we played so after a democratic process the East & South nines were chosen.

Dark threatening skies were all around with thunder and lightning in the distance, fortunately, due to the direction of the prevailing wind, storms were kept away and we completed the round dry. The course was in as good condition as we have seen it, nicely green but with a bit too much grass on the fairways.

Scoring was below par with Craig Dows and Michael Brett tied on thirty-three points, Craig had twenty-one on the front nine but faded badly following a lost ball on a fairway and was relegated to second on countback. Jimmy Carr took third with thirty-two. Near pins went to Keith Hemmings, Craig Dows, and Geoff Cox.

We witnessed something we had not seen before when a course dog picked up a ball from a green and dropped it at least three meters off to the side. We also had an issue with player’s illegible handwriting and scorecard completion, much more attention needs to be placed on this issue as it makes life almost impossible for Jimmy to work out the final placings, and may result in disqualification in a serious competition. A scorecard should be completed legibly, checked and signed before being submitted, hieroglyphics or medical style handwriting are unacceptable. The Bunker Boys are a friendly not for profit golf society and all comers are welcome, however in the interests of fairness, we need to adhere to the rules of golf.

1st Craig Dows (8) 38 points

2nd Jimmy Carr (16)35 points

3rd Robby Watts (8) 34 points

Near pins Keith Hemmings, Craig Dows, Jimmy Carr X 2

Today’s round started in very pleasant conditions but as time went on the weather became more ominous with thunder and lightning in the air and rain in the distance. Just as our lead group got to the thirteenth tee the rain came so a break in play for shelter was required.  After about a twenty-minute break play was resumed and we completed the round without any further problems.

In what could only be described as a curious round Craig Dows took first place with a card that contained four birdies and four wipes for a total thirty-eight points, it seemed a case of all or nothing. In somewhat of a slump by his standards Jimmy Carr looks like he will make a return to the top soon with a second placing of thirty-six points, while Robby Watts took third with thirty-four. Near pins went to Keith Hemmings, Craig Dows, and two to Jimmy. Rumor has it that green fees will double next month so it could have been our last game at Greenvalley for some time although the anticipated high season may not eventuate so who knows.

2nd Stuart Brown (8) 35 points

3rd Craig Dows (8) 33 points

Near pins Stuart Brown, Roger Touhy, Craig Dows, & Michael Brett.

A good field of thirteen played the last game of the week in hot humid conditions at the Pattavia course. No rain, no delays or interruptions so the round was completed in a timely manner. The greens had recently been cored and sanded so not up to the normal standard. As is common at this course at certain times of the year, fruit flies were in plague proportions, also something we hadn’t seen before clouds of dragonflies which were much less of a distraction.

With a superb game tee to green, Takeshi Hakozaki took first place with thirty-seven points, had his unusual putting stroke been in tune he could easily have been in the low forties. A steady round from Stuart Brown saw him take second with thirty-five whilst Craig Dows fully restored to health after a recent affliction took third. Near pins went to most of the usual suspects, Craig Dows, Roger Touhy, Stuart Brown, and Michael Brett. A absentee from todays round was Geoff Cox who claimed he had been stung on the right hand by a hornet, that’s a novel excuse for missing golf in Pattaya.
