Monday Sept 226th Treasure Hill
We awakened to a blue cloudless sky, however it is the rainy season, and by the time we set out for Treasure Hill the clouds were quickly forming and it began raining steadily as we teed off. It became a deluge by the fourth hole and everybody took shelter at the drink stop by the fourth tee for 50 minutes. Play resumed in squelchy conditions but by the back nine the course and the weather were fine. This course is always well presented and today was no exception, the greens were a little slower than expected but otherwise perfect. With the current promotion this is excellent value at ThB1050 (GF+CF+GC). The weather affected most people’s game with the exception of Takeshi Hakozaki who took top spot with an excellent 39pts. Lance Conway – Jones took second with 36pts and Tore Eliassen was third with 35pts. The joint leaders in the Golfer of the Month competition battled each other all day but failed to advance their cause. Colin Greig was leading by one after 16 holes only to fail to score on 17 and then Les Cobban who had parred 17 failed to score on 18 leaving them both on 34pts and still tied, Mark Carter who had a chance of catching them had a bad day trailling the field. . Les had the consolation of getting 3 near pins.

A similar day to Monday greeted us with clear skies slowly turning to grey clouds. Again it tried to rain on the first hole but although it threatened with thunder rolling round it held off until the last two holes We had made a late change of venue to take advantage of the special promotion ThB1050 (GF+CF+GC) again excellent value. Considering the weather the course was in very good shape and the greenkeeper had taken delight in setting out some really tough pin positions. This course always seems to play longer and off the Blue tees at 6600yds it’s a tough test. Neil Carter had his game back in shape and took first place with 35pts and Tony (3 putt) Robbins squeezed into second place with 30pts. Shot of the day went to Neil Carter with a 3 rescue club to 3 feet on the 195yds uphill par 3 followed by sinking a tricky putt for birdie and 4pts.

Another great day for golf and a great price at Emerald. Again the course was in good shape for a medal round. Tony Robbins’s day ended when he put his second shot OB on the short par 4 second hole a running up a triple bogey. Peter Allen who hates Medals even after winning the last two (even with a14 on one hole) wasn’t two perturbed when he had 9s on the third and fourth hole however he was concerned when collected seven 9s in the course of the round. We welcomed back Frank Quinlan after a period of ill health and converting to the silver tees he enjoyed his return especially with a near pin on the 15th. Geoff Parker mad light work of the medal and convincingly took 1st place with a Net71 which included two near pins. PJ Redmond who loves the Silver Tees at Emerald came second with net 75 and Ross Schiffke beat Jimmy Carr on count back for third with net 77.

It was the last round for Golfer of the Month but as Colin Greig had returned to Scotland and Les Cobban was unavailable nothing changed. Colin winning Golfer of the Month beating Les on count back by virtue of his seventh best score being one better than Les’s
