Monday morning and a quick trip up the 7 to Khao Kheow to play the A and C courses. As usual the course was well presented but with the added challenge of longer than usual rough following the recent good rains. The course was playable without lift clean and place although there was a bit of water around, the streams were flowing and water cascading into the lake on A7 from the surrounding bush. Numbers are starting to build and it was two Divisions today with the cut at 16.8 index. A Division was a tight affair with 1 shot separating the top four. Laurence Harding set a hot pace with 23 pts on the front nine but fell away on the back and his 37 pts total was only good enough for 4th place on count back. The first three places were all Australian with Lance Conway-Jones edging out Robbie Watts for second place both with 37 points but Tony Robbins eased into  first with 38pts. B Division was not as cut throat . PJ Redmond relishing the very generous silver tee positions took first place with 34pts followed by Trevor Priestly whose 20 pts on the back nine including a double bogey on the last left him one short. To his utter amazement Tore Eliassen took third with 30pts. For the first time we can remember one of the near pins was shared with Neil and Robbie in the same flight sharing the honour.

After the really heavy rain in Pattaya overnight we weren’t expecting to find very good conditions  at Greenwood. The road works on 331 have been a minor inconvenience of late and we arrived in good time to find the course completely deserted and we completed a rain free day while Pattaya was experiencing very heavy rain and flooding. We played A and B courses and they were poles apart . A was in just excellent conditions with the greens smooth and true but B course hadn’t fully recovered from the recent coring and the greens were slower and quite bumpy. Laurence Harding again had a great front nine only to stumble again on the back. Lance Conway –Jones stunned us all including himself with a one over front nine 37 he also slipped on the back with a 47 but was still good enough to win with net 69. Tony Robbins with Net 73 was second and Peter Allen with Net 76 third. Laurence again taking fourth place. The regular faces again took the near pins. It’s getting near the end of the low season and we are starting to see the Northern Hemisphere hibernators returning, today we welcomed back Gordon Melia.

A subdued day today after the news of yesterday with a number of our members wearing black out of respect. Phone calls to the venue confirmed that it was open for golf.

The course was in excellent condition after the good rains and fairways and greens could not be faulted. However there were many complaints about the rough which was brutal and punished the wayward shots. The competition was between the two players playing together and shooting equal scores of 36 with Neil winning with 19 pts on the back nine to Jimmy’s 17. The day was hot and the rain held off until we were all back in the clubhouse for prize giving. Tony Robbins was in the frame once again with 2 near pins.
