WEDNESDAY, MAY 8TH
I am not sure but I think I saw the General Manager and his staff doing a rain dance when I arrived at the course today. If so, it certainly worked for we had some heavy rain half way around the course, well for at least 2 minutes. There are more signs of wear not helped by the tees and the pins being in the same position for weeks on end. Does the staff have no imagination? Some good scores from the ladies, as usual today, with Miss Thip (17) missing out for 3rd place with 37 points running out of steam on the way home having 7 points less than the front nine, to Miss Phin (10) on the same score who had 11 pars in all but a disaster on the 5th hole upset her rhythm for a few holes. But the star today was Miss Nu (16), who is enjoying a tremendous run of form at the moment, took the plaudits with a great 43 points with 9 pars and 1 birdie dropping only 3 shots on the front nine. In the men’s competition, Wayne Cotterell (14) came 4th with 34 points but well behind Peter Davies (16) on 38 points whose progress took a bit of a jolt at the turn recording 6 points less than the first nine of 22 points. He was pipped at the post by Jim Bell (18), also with 38 points but with 17 points on the return trip despite double bogies on the 12th and 18th holes. Mikael Anderson (16) came home with 43 points having 2 or more points on 16 holes and 1 point on the other two. Surprisingly, there were no takers for the twos prize.
Thip, Phin and Nu.
