HAVEN CONSULTANTS MONTHLY MEDAL
It is difficult to find a clear stretch of road when driving from the Billabong to the gates of Green Valley for every road, which includes the road to Siam Old Course has extensive road works both sides of each road. But, despite the problems, 42 golfers turned up on the 1st tee to support the Haven Consultants Monthly Medal sponsored by our long term friend Brian Chapman. The temperature was kept down to a reasonable level by a pleasant breeze, occasionally increasing to a strong wind just to add an additional problem to our medal round which is perhaps one reason that, apart from a handful of golfers, the overall scores were not overly impressive. In the ladies competition Miss Noodle (12) showed a 7 shot improvement after the turn, the front being upset by an 8 on the par three 8th for a total of net 71 and 3rd place well behind Miss Prae (40), who had her best score in a long time, but she had to settle for 2nd place after a countback with a net 67. Miss Sa has never won a Haven Monthly Medal but 4 pars and a birdie on the back nine ensured she secured her trophy from Brian Chapman. Eddie Bielby (17) eagled the par four 12th to drop only 4 shots on the way home and a net 71 but 3 shots more than William Peach (20) in 3rd place. Glynn Davies (14) and Wayne Cotterell (15) both finished with a net 67 and 42 shots on the return trip but when looking at the last 6 holes, Cottee’s par on the 16th was the difference between the two with Glynn taking 27 against Cottee’s 26 and 1st place. Cottee, who was hitting some obscenely long drives, won his 1st Haven Monthly Medal in more than 5 years of trying with 9 pars and 1 birdie in his round. A plethora of 2s today going to Paul Hack, Barry Copeskate, Keith Allen, Eddie Bielby, Neil Herd, Sel Wegner, Scott Baymgarton, 2 each to both Miss Noodle and Miss Nok.
