WEDNESDAY, MARCH 27TH

GREEN VALLEY

HAVEN CONSULTANTS MEDAL

Today is the culmination of 12 monthly medals since March last year, kindly sponsored for the past 4 years by Brian Chapman of Haven Consultants  (Financial Advisors) based in Nern Plubwan. One male and 1 female from each month’s competition come together in March to determine this year’s champion. This event is always well supported and today was no exception with 42 golfers lined up on the 1st tee to either become this year’s champion and to be the first to qualify for next year’s final trophy. The ladies always leave the men in the shade on these occasions for they were all beautifully turned out in the Haven blue shirts and white shorts or skirts whilst the men try their best but they never quite manage it. Miss Thip (16) upped her game after the turn for a  net 73 to come 4th with Miss May (11) in third with 8 pars in her round and a net 71. Miss Noodle (14) had a very solid round with 8 pars on her card and a net 69 but, although she finished 2nd, she won the trophy and shirt as the winner of the March competition for the rule is one person is unable to win 2 trophies for Miss Poopay (11)  won the day also with a net 69 –winning the countback by just 1 shot on the back nine – and becomes this year’s champion. In the men’s competition Wayne Cotterell (12) stumbled on the back nine with only 1 par for a net 75 and 5th place losing on a countback to Dave Smith Jnr. (22) despite him having trouble on the par 5s. Glen Ellsworth (13) took 3rd place with a net 73 dropping only 5 shots on the way home. A similar situation occurred with the men as the ladies for although Tony Oakes (14) finished in 2nd place, recovering well from dropping 7 shots in the first 3 holes, for a net 72 to win the first monthly medal of this year’s competition, for the day’s winner and this year’s champion was Auke Engelkes (12) with a net 70 overcoming 3 double bogies on the back nine. A moment of madness must be mentioned here for Tony Oakes parked his car and removed his clubs as usual to make his way to the changing room but when he was returning to his car some 6 hours later, he was somewhat concerned for he was unable to find his keys, only to discover that not only had he left his keys in his car but he left the engine and air con running the entire time. No wonder it was nice and cold in his car. Five 2s  today going to Miss Poopay, Auke, Cottee, John Anderson and Barry Copeskate.
