WEDNESDAY, JULY 24TH
Green Valley, like every golf course in the area, needs rain and plenty of it but there is one area of the course that could be improved with just a little imagination from the staff. Imagine a straight line drawn right through the middle of each green and you will find the pins along that line very often in the same place week after week. Not to the left or the right but, within an inch or so, right along that line and there are areas that are unexplored by the regular golfers of the course. Our friend Stanley, the African explore, would have a field day. Just a little imagination please lads! Generally, the scoring was good today with perfect weather for golf, in contrast to the weather on Sunday at the Open Championship, but Miss Ta (21) was the best of the day with 43 points with very good 40 gross and 23 points after the turn. Miss Ta (11) made a valiant effort to keep up with no double bogies, 6 pars and a birdie but had to settle for 2nd place and 38 points 1 point ahead of Miss Sa (20) with only 1 point on the last 2 holes and 3rd place. The consistent Selwyn Wegner (14) took the plaudits today with 39 points 1 point ahead of Arch Armstrong (10) in 2nd place recording 7 pars, one blob and only one bogey after the turn to pip Jeff North (9) who had 11 pars overall but the six pars on the back lost him the countback. Three 2s today going to Peter Le Noury, Miss Phin and Miss Porn.
Meanwhile, a few groups were taking advantage of the great deal Capt. Bob had with Laem Chabang with three from Australia occupying the podium with Brian Scott (16) leading the way with 37 points well clear of Peter Terry (19) in 2nd place on 34 points winning the countback with 17 on the trip home from Rick Culley (15) on the same score but only 15 points after the turn. Twos going to Glyn Davies and Paul Hack.
