WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 23RD
Once again, we were transferred to Silky Oaks but, having heard that Green Valley is up and running, many Billabong regulars are looking forward to returning to our regular Wednesday venue. Standing on the first tee, the weather threatened us with a scorching day of golf but as the day wore on, the sun took refuge behind cumulus clouds, the wind strengthened and prepared us for some rain but delayed this possibility until we were ensconced in the Billabong later in the day. 19 ladies today but playing at Green Valley, returned some very impressive scores. Despite 2 blobs on the back 9 which cost her 3rd place, Miss Yen came 4th with 37 points the same score as Miss Nu on the same score. Miss Nat was very steady through 18 holes with 40 points but was unable to compete with Miss Eng on 43 points despite 2 blobs on the way round. Wayne Cotterell started and finished the day with 2 blobs missing out to Auke Engelkes on the same score of 36 points to fill the minor placings. Mel McGowan was clear of these two to take second but missed out on top spot scoring only 1 point in a three hole spell, one behind Tam Davies who took the day’s honours. Only two 2s today which went to Selwyn Wegner and Wayne Cotterell.
