OSTROM WINS AT FIRST ATTEMPT ON RETURN

CAFÉ KRONBORG AT CRYSTAL BAY 8th JAN 2018

Cafe Kronborg played at Crystal Bay on Monday 8th January, where the course was busy and another dreaded 5 ball made things slow on the front nine. I have never seen the grass on the greens so long on the C course (our front nine), it was akin to putting through treacle with the grain being a major part of any read. The greens mirrored the pace of play, slow on the front and the more usual quicker pace on the back.

The journey was about an hour thanks to the opening of the toll road and the closing of the exit at Khao Kheow. The opening of the toll road may well improve the journey to Bangkok and the airport, but it has certainly added a lot more time to the journeys to all the local golf clubs. Hopefully it will sort itself out and the queues and traffic light priorities will improve.

Back in the Clubhouse the presentation was somewhat delayed due to 2 missing near pin markers. Can I remind everyone that the last group is jointly responsible for picking up the near pins, failure to do so means you have to sort it after you get back, a real pain for you and everyone else waiting.

The vastly differing greens and the heat of the day took its toll and scores were surprisingly poor for Crystal Bay. No-one beat their handicap and only the flight winners managed to play to their handicaps.

There were 2 flights with the A flight 0 to 23 and the B flight 24 and above.

The A Flight winner with a robust 36 points was John Ostrom, returning to the Kronborg for the first time in a couple of years. Second was Ronnie Ratte with a hard earned 34 points. Third was the ever consistent Rob Brown with a respectable 33 points

In the B Flight the omni-present Jan Lovgreen took pole position with the only other 36 points of the day. Carole Kubicki continued her improving form, taking second place with 33 points and Peter Hammond was a little bemused to take third place with 30 points and no countback.

An hour after leaving Crystal Bay we were back at the Café Kronborg, where the ice cold Singha was a welcome cool down after the heat and trials of the day.
