Cafe Kronborg 16/2
CAFÉ KRONBORG AT CRYSTAL BAY 16th FEB 2017
Cafe Kronborg played at Crystal Bay on Thursday 16th February, on the day of the countbacks, where there were nearly as many countbacks as there were prizes. On our journey we went along the 7 and came off at the Bangpra exit and we were expecting to take the short cut by the Stadium to Crystal Bay. However, our driver passed this and we thought he knows another cut through. Arriving at Mountain Shadow we realised he had got mixed up and we then turned around and took the turn off we all knew. Several more missed turns and we got to Crystal Bay, I knew then this was going to be a different sort of day.
Despite the Mystery Tour, we teed off early, the first group going before the start sheet had even reached the tee. We played the C and B Courses, as A is closed for renovations. The greens on C were long and grainy, with many putts coming up short or being grabbed off line by the grain. The B course greens however were short and slick and in great condition, as to be expected as renovations had been completed on this 9. The combination of the differing greens was a tough ask and the low stableford scores bore witness to this.
Back in the clubhouse there were many cards with anomalies and many countbacks which took some sorting out. Having sorted out the mess, I can understand why some organisers had disqualified people in the past. One issue was something many of us do, you just agree the stableford totals and put in the card. May I remind everyone that players sign to confirm the gross scores only, so if the stableford points are correct, but the gross score is wrong you could be disqualified. The checking of the stableford scores is the responsibility of the organiser.
There were 2 flights with the A flight 0 to 22 and the B flight 23 and above.
The A Flight winner was Henning Olsen, the only person to beat their handicap with a sterling 39 points. He did say he had a good caddie, but those putts have to be hit by the player. Richard Kubicki came 2nd with 33 points. We then had 4 players with 31 points vying for the next 3 places. In 3rd winning the countback battle was Brian Gabe with 18 points on the back and 13 points on the last 6 and in 4th place, just missing out, was Arne Max Pederson, also with 18, but with 12 points on the last 6. Fifth was Peter Bygballe with 17 points on the back and losing out was newcomer Nick Revell who had 13 points on the back nine. Nick was a little flummoxed as at the Kronborg the countbacks are always done as per the card and not in the order of play, but his consolation was that his long putt held up.
In B Flight Jan Badura took 1st place with a solid 33 points and Eddie “the eagle” Glinsek was 2nd with 32 points. Third and fourth spots were decided on countback with Elias Magnussen and Kurt Sandgaard both having 30 points, Elias taking 3rd place with 15 points on the back and Kurt taking 4th place with 14 points. Fifth place was again decide on countback with 2 players having 29 points, Ulla Ravn took 5th with a countback of 15 points and Steen Habersaat lost out with only 12 points on the back.
