Tropical Golf 29/9
Friday September 29, Greenwood CC – Medal
Gordon and John have a day to remember!
Time flies, and its already a Daily Double day at Tropical Golf, with both the Monthly Medal Mug and Golfer of the Month awards up for grabs! The Golfer of theMonth contest was between two golfers this time, and just to make things interesting they were in the same group. Who can take the pressure? With stroke play good course management becomes paramount, but it’s obvious many don’t make the transition, with Stableford habits dancing in their heads.
Greenwood is a good test for stroke play, being a bit long from the white tees but relatively wide fairways. Oh, and bunkers! Lots and lots of bunkers. Did we mention course management? Ok some luck helps, a lot. Course condition was good-excellent. Golfer of the Month contenders Brian Parish and John Pierrel were in the first group together, and the race was on!
Monthly Mug: This month’s Mug Winner is Gordon Clegg (c/h 35) who bested the competition with five shots to spare with his net 68. The was Gordon’s first mug, and we congratulate him! Moving on down the line was Bob Britton (17) with net 73, John Davis (15) with net 74, John Pierrel (14) at net 75, and Tom Herrington winning last call with net 76 on count-back thanks to a good back nine.
Golfer of the Month: The month’s race was between two horses who had such a good month of golf they left all others behind weeks ago. It was close for the first few holes. We don’t know if Greenwood Management has a count of how many sand traps are on the course, but they could ask Brian as he decided to visit nearly every one. Some days are like that. While Brian was raking numerous bunkers John Pierrel played good steady golf to take home his first Golfer of the Month award! Way to go John, you earned it!
We wish to thank Bill, Lek, and BJ’s Holiday Lodge for sponsoring our Golfer Of The Month award, and for the great support they give us all year long.
