Khao Kheow Wind Pushes New Satita to Victory
On our visit to Khao Kheow Jan 27 we made the following comment,
“Most thought the wind was a good excuse for having low scores ( anything will do)”.
After this trip Feb 15 nothing has changed except the wind was even stronger and once again my caddy had her hat well and truly secured. The scores were certainly low, but having recent excellent form New Satita overcame the conditions to be once again the only golfer to play to handicap.
The wind blew into our faces on the first Tee,(A1) continued until we were playing A8 after which we commented how hot it was without wind. This lasted only the 100yards distance to the A9 tee, whereupon normal (windy) operations resumed.
Khao Kheow greens are are testing at any time, but being dried out by the aforementioned wind they became very slick, and the “Mother”of them all, (and the main talking point back at Links Bar), had to be the Par 4, A7. The pin placement had golfers nearly in tears, because if you didn’t hole it or at least be a foot past you could watch in bemusement as the caddy with marker in hand waited for the ball to stop rolling off the green, then starting all over. Mostly it did not stop until it made it to the Fringe. I know of at least some who simply gave up and picked up the ball. One in our group” hated’ his ball so much he hit it a long way into the water. Bet he has never hit his wedge that far before!!
Not many starters today ( does KK scare us that much?) so we had only one flight.
New was not confident her 36 points would be enough to win ( a place maybe ?) but when John Anderson found his 33 points was good enough for 2nd , it became apparent it was a hard day at the office. Soren Hansen, like New Satita seems to have been in the money a lot recently and had 3rd spot with 32 points.
Getting a “2” today was difficult ( getting on the green in one was difficult),but Christian Boysen managed the feat and claimed the booty.
That is our last trip to KK for this month, but for sure we will be back in March as, although it is a challenge, it is a great course to tackle.
Back at “Links” presentations done and time to eat. What is on today?
Aha, Chicken Strips with Chips, and if you want it, a nice Canadian BBQ Sauce.
Winner……..New Satita……36 pts
2nd…………..John Anderson..33 pts
3rd…………..Soren Hansen….32 pts
“2”s …Christian Boysen
