Links Cup Flight Winners Set New Personal Bests
Golfers! Do you ever take the time to stop and look around at the scenery of the Golf course on which you are standing?
While waiting on the B9 Fairway at Pattana Golf Club the panorama was spectacular. Bridges adorned with draped flowering shrubs, a fountain in the lake and green fairways into the distance. Swivel around and see behind the green, the Grand clubhouse.
Here was the venue for our April “Links Cup”. 38 players including, once again, a contingent from Bunker Boys Society, came to try their luck at snaring some or any of the 22 prizes on offer.
“Links Cup” has a prize on each hole, for long first putt, near pin on Par3s, near pin on 2nd shot on Par 4s etc. Many winners, some lucky ( or good enough) managed 2 each.
Adam Barton is now the proud owner of the Keg of Beer from Sponsor “Touch Agogo” in LK Metro,( perhaps only temporarily) which was for nearest the pin on 3rd shot on Par5 B9. ( sorry Adam! He made par.)
The weather was kind and together with a course in splendid condition some good scores were turned in.
Now the PBs ; “A” Flight winner Phil Davies set a new personal best gross score of 77, bettering his previous best of 78. Happy man. And he was one of those to grab 2 of the hole prizes. Joy was happy to help open the envelopes..
“B” Flight winner, Frank Riley, age 70 something, cannot remember ever having 25 points stableford for 9 holes, so again this was a first.
Not sure if they set personal bests, Huw Philips ran a close 2nd to Phil in “A” flight with an in form 41 points, while in “B” flight PJ Mitchell recorded 39 points.
Before tee off Phil (PJ) thanked me for choosing to play Yellow tees. I regretfully could not claim that honour as the decision had been made before I arrived. Our bus was late as traffic slowed due to a road accident en route.
Back at “Links Bar” the smorgasbord was smelling and looking inviting, prepared by their recently appointed Chef. Lasagne, Fried Rice, Pork Spare Ribs, Curry and Chips were some of the choices. Don’t forget the Apple Crumble and Vanilla Custard.. I can’t tell you how good it was because by the time I decided to try it…all gone.. Need to be quicker next time.
Presentations by Phil contained the usual light hearted banter, much to everyone’s enjoyment. Now to look to the next “Cup” in May,all golfers welcome.
“A” Flight…..1st….Phil Davies (11)………..42 pts
2nd…Huw Philips (14)………41 pts
“B” Flight ……1st….Frank Riley (23)……….42 pts
2nd…PJ Mitchell (21)………..39pts
Having 2 winners on 42 points, who gets to wear the Green Jacket? Phil Davies decided that since we already have a photo of him wearing it, the honour would be handed to Frank Riley. Well done to all the winners!
Phil’s back from leave and the “Wig” is back.. The lowest score for the day and new wearer of the wig is Niels Peters. Check the photo,.. is that an uncanny resemblance to “Billy The Wig”?
Pattaya Links Golf Society is a PSC affiliated, friendly group and welcomes golfers of all levels. We play Monday,Wednesday and Friday.
