Bobby’s Adventures At Emerald
Most golfers’ day out might be fun and laughter, maybe serious, perhaps frustrating. Bobby Watson, it seems, had a rather adventurous day, according to his playing partners.
There was the ball that became stuck part the way up a tree and locked in behind some stakes. Take a penalty drop..”No! I can hit it, it will go over to the other tree.” Phil got it right when he said there was no way he could hit that ball.
Then there was the 3rd shot on a par 5 that went to the back of the green. According to Phil, it looked like Bob was jumping up and down on a springy mattress trying to show that there was casual water and he should take a free drop. That debate went well into the night, along with the, almost, as interesting adventures of his playing partners, Maurice and Phil. Must play with this lot one day to get more stories…
Bob reckoned he was diddled, but the bottom line was that he missed first place on a countback with Maurice Roberts, with both scoring 37 points.
Third position also needed a countback, and this was won by Greg Proctor with 36 points, just nudging out Tommy Marshall. Playing to handicap is a good game.
Only a small number, 9 players, went to an Emerald Course that was in quite good condition. All were happy with fairways and the greens, although most greens were considered slow, and the low season pricing of 1250 bht for G/Fee+Caddy+Cart should have attracted bigger numbers. Where do they all go?
Winner……Maurice Roberts ( 12)….37 pts c/back
2nd Place……Bob Watson ( 8)………37 pts.
3rd Place…….Greg Proctor ( 26)……36 pts c/back
Because of the small numbers we had only the three places. But that doesn’t mean someone misses out on the “Wig”, oh no!
After Maurice slipped on the Green Jacket, without any further ado, Phil went straight to Victor Wright and, after some re adjusting and combing, this fine couple had the photo op.
Another fun day ended at dusk, and time to head home.
