WEDNESDAY, MAY 17TH

GREEN VALLEY

STABLEFORD

The caddies looked at us on the 1st tee as if we were mad. You could hardly blame them for it had rained since the early hours and had not stopped yet. The sun had gone on holiday and left behind some dark, forbidding clouds as far as the eye could see threatening all sorts of mayhem for those crazy enough to venture forth. Mercifully, the rain took pity on us after 6 or 7 holes only to return before we reached the 18th. Today was a true test of whether your new shoes are waterproof as advertised. Taking the conditions into consideration, the scores were very impressive for Glyn Davies, having put together 37 points with 5 blobs, was not mentioned in dispatches. Mal Roberts and George Barrie could not be separated on 38 points until the last three holes when George took the honours with 7 points to Mal’s 5 points, but Mal did have the only two today.  Tony Oaks has a collapsing right knee, apparently, but it did not stop him getting 39 points with a birdie on the last and 22 points on the back nine to promote himself to 2nd place. Bill Marsden has taken the accolades for the past three weeks following a three month layoff not playing golf  ( or so he says) with scores of 38, 44 and today 40 points to leave everyone in his wake. He puts his success down to finding some old steel shafted clubs on the floor of the Billabong. Back at the Billabong Miss Da celebrated her birthday – 21 plus some months – by providing those in the bar to some bar snacks. Happy Birthday Da.

William
